~Ryk Visscher~
In 1980 I was on holiday in California when I came upon a copy of the "Bowhunting Records of California" in a San Francisco archery shop.
When I returned to Alberta I checked the Pope & Young record book and was surprised to find that only 20 animals in total had ever been harvested in Alberta that surpassed Pope & Young's minimum standards.
As an avid bowhunter and confident that bowhunting popularity in Alberta was growing tremendously, I started working with all of Alberta's "official" Pope & Young measurers to record the Alberta records for posterity.
The first publication in 1983 had only 78 animals that surpassed Pope & Young minimums.
The 2019 (36th) Edition contains over 4400 entries of 11 different Alberta species!
